Global Time Zone & Remote Work Report 2026

How much of a standard 09:00–17:00 workday overlaps between major business hubs? This report compares two fixed dates so seasonal clock changes are visible instead of silently averaged away.

8
city pairs · two seasonal snapshots

Working-hours overlap by city pair

The table counts 30-minute intervals when both cities are locally between 09:00 inclusive and 17:00 exclusive.

What the comparison shows

Nearby hubs retain substantial overlap. Intercontinental pairs can have little or no shared 09:00–17:00 time, so teams may need rotating meeting windows.

Why two dates?

One current offset can hide daylight-saving changes. January and July snapshots make seasonal differences visible without predicting future legislation.

Methodology

  1. Use the named IANA zone for each city.
  2. Evaluate every 30-minute UTC interval across the stated date.
  3. Count an interval only when both local times are 09:00–16:59.
  4. Report overlap hours without scoring productivity, fairness or legal working time.

Limits: the study is a planning reference, not employment-law guidance. Time-zone rules can change after publication, and local working patterns differ by organisation.

Method and primary references

Time-zone results use named IANA zones through the runtime’s internationalization engine. Weekend conventions are planning defaults, not legal advice. Announcement-dependent public holidays require confirmation.
